Let's Clean Something Else TOO!

“A clean India would be the best tribute India could pay to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150 birth anniversary in 2019,” said Shri Narendra Modi as he launched the Swachh Bharat Mission at Rajpath in New Delhi. On 2nd October 2014, Swachh Bharat Mission was launched throughout length and breadth of the country as a national movement. The campaign aims to achieve the vision of a ‘Clean India’ by 2nd October 2019. (PMINDIA, 2018)

Swachhata is very much desirable in its physical form, clean surroundings, hygienic atmosphere are the most inevitable parts of any progressive economy. BUT BUT BUT,…. WHY is  Swachhata only physical in nature? Does cleaning the surrounding for a day or two or for years solve the problems of ‘dirt’ from our country? Why is cleaning a forced upon factor rather than a very core element of our personality?  WHAT ABOUT THE MENTAL DIRT PILING UP IN THE MINDS OF HUMANITY? HOW ABOUT CLEANING THAT?

India is changing. I have seen children putting the wrappers of chocolates in their pockets if they do not find dustbins nearby. I have seen people are a bit hesitant while throwing the litters on the road. Consciousness is evolving for physical cleanliness in India but the universal crisis is there on cleaning the mental dirt. Dirt itself is a tricky word. For one gambling is considered as a sin but at the same time, s/he does well in share-market. For some giving good moral lectures is a hobby at the same time, their eyes reveal their true nature. To flirt is a dirt for some but many have adopted as this as their second jobs.

Cutting long thing short, I request that on this Gandhi Jayanti, let’s vow clean at least two/three our dirt which can be your negative habits, egotism, egoism, prejudices, politics (in negative sense- otherwise the word itself is neutral), backbiting, backstabbing, rumour creating and the worst ENJOYING OTHERS' SUFFERING (sadistic attitude). A whole lot of individuals in society is increasing fond of other’s suffering nowadays. One person’s pain is becoming other person’s pleasure.

Apart of cleaning our houses, offices, roads, etc. let’s create some more space in mind for peace and happiness but removing weeds of jealousy, greed, INSECURITY (this phenomenon is found very much present in elite individuals.), fear, negativity and sadistic behaviours.

On this Gandhi Jayanti, I request all the fellow-beings to adopt one positive habit and remove one negative habit from our lifestyle.

Can we do it? Are we brave enough to accept that we have some weaknesses and ready to change for positive?

If yes, TODAY is the DAY.

Jai Hind!

With Respect and Love,

Dr. Bhavin C. Chauhan
