COMMUNICATION SYNERGY
Communication is more than words. It is
important for teachers and administrators to understand the nonverbal messages
they are sending and receiving during the teaching learning processes.
The most effective communication occurs when
verbal and nonverbal messages are in coordination with each other which creates
COMMUNICATION
SYNERGY.
There are some important reasons why we use
nonverbal messages:
- Words have limitations.
- Nonverbal signals are powerful and full of
impact.
- Nonverbal messages are likely to be more
genuine [more authentic].
- Nonverbal signals can express feelings too
disturbing to tell.
- A separate communication channel is necessary
to help for sending complex messages.
In classroom, teachers and students - both
consciously and unconsciously- send and receive nonverbal cues several hundred
times a day. The teacher should be aware of this obvious mode of communication
for two reasons:
1.
To become better receivers of students' messages.
2.
To gain the ability to send positive signals that reinforce students'
learning while simultaneously becoming more skilled at avoiding negative
signals that resist their learning.
I hope that we have started learning nonverbal
communication with the valid reasons to proceed further.
All the best!
