How to be Productive
In the present
era of competition and collaboration, productivity is the key element which
puts us on the elevator of success. Our success is judged by how much
fruitfully productive we are. If we are actors, we are judged by how many
super-hit movies, we have produced. If we are cricketers, our success ratio is
measured by how many successful innings we have played to make our team win. If
we are writers, our status is labelled through how well we produce the art of
work. In short, our production (a fruit of our labour) is the valuable asset
for self-esteem and social as well as professional recognitions. But many a
times, we become self-sabotage and diminish ourselves. Though we are born to something great and be
something worthwhile but sometimes cold weariness covers us and lead us to a
pathetic life which we internally hates but outwardly cherished. Instead of
that, let’s change ourselves by certain basic rule to increase our productivity.
1] Manage the Mood
We are humans;
not machine. If we are not in good mood, we are tend not to work productively.
If we are in good mood, we may create wonders. Mood can be used as the
advantage to be more productive. Let’s keep ourselves in good mood by starting
the day peacefully and in calculative way. Those are not in mood to do the
work, are those who perhaps may not have enough reasons to create mood to do
the work. Have reasons. It will definitely change the mood. (Try it! I have
tried it. It really works.)
2] Don’t check/read emails, Facebook, What’s App, Twitter and
even newspaper in the morning.
Ask yourself a
simple question. Is it really worth to take your first attention in the
morning. If it is yes, then do it but mostly social, digital or print media has
nothing to do with our day to day work which is really important to earn and
live well. So kindly start a day with something which really heightens your
mood like playing with your kids, talking romantically with your spouse (if you
are married), or writing your today’s objectives (which is the best option).
Updating ourselves is important so read the newspapers or emails or updates on
Facebook or What’s App in the afternoon or mostly in the evening.
3] Before we try to
do something faster and better, ask ourselves whether it is really worthy of
our attention.
According to the 80/20 rules, success depends
upon the 20% of work from the entire work profile yet we find that people are
very busy in doing something which entirely different work than they should be
engaged in. Before any task, let’s ask ourselves whether it is really worth to
have our efforts. Many a times, people mistaken: being busy with being
productive. When we are busy, it is fatal mistake that we are productive.
Productivity comes with passion towards the desired goal, cutting the
distractions which hinder the goal. It is better to rest than to waste the time
in unproductive tasks.
4] Develop the Focus by Eliminating
the Distractions.
Throughout history, we find that those who
have achieved the great heights their career as well as life have one thing in
common: absolute and undisruptive focus. Now how to have absolute confidence in
the age where a lot of distractions are at our fingertips. How to avoid
undesired input which hinders our output is also very creative exercise.
Minimize the use of social media or restrict it to particular time. I recommend
to take the mobile phone on silent mode or away if you really wish to focus for
a long time. Remember: Developing focus is just like digging well, initially
you have dirt only but as time pass you will have a taste of labour fruits.
5] Have a Strong Routine
Routine life is taken by most of the people
as mundane and monotonous but it is not so. If we study the successful people,
we realize that it is their daily routine which really made them what they
desired to do or be. Every individual who really wants to do something
extraordinary or something worthwhile with the life, should have the best of
routine and should follow it with consistency. Consistency is the key factor
with which even a common individual can defeat the most talented man in the
chosen field. Routine has power. It should not be neglected.
6] Define the goal (Everyday goal
should be set night before.)
Life without the goal is just like passing
the day by without doing nothing. Imagine the ship without sail and captain. It
drifts a lot. The same is the condition with the life without goal. Goal is the
fuel for life. It gives you zest to wake up with energy and pursue what you
wish to endeavour. Set SMART goals. How to set and achieve the goal is also a
big issue. For that read: Goals by Brian Tracy. One of the best books have been
ever written on the subject.
Wishing the best of success in your life!
Good one...
