It is better to die on our feet than to live on our knees.
Recently I have watched a movie – 300: The Rise of
the Empire. This line is from that movie. After watching this movie, this line
was haunting me just like anything. In today’s world where everybody is in
competition of pleasing the authority and getting fruits from it, I wonder
where the terms ‘individual glory’ and ‘personal pride’ in society. Everywhere we
find the hollow creatures trying to please another equally hollow creature.
Today plain speaking is considered a bit ill-mannered
or shameless behaviour. Those who are speaking plainly and frankly are not
given much importance- rather they are ignored. Talking softly and politely is
a good thing but can’t we assert ourselves to the world regarding our life, our
views. I firmly advocate the free speech without fear of anyone. As Shakespeare
says: A coward dies many times before his death, a valiant tastes the death but
once.
What are we? A coward who are crushed under
the hood of circumstances or we have named our cowardice as circumstances. We
need to think on this. Where is that self-esteem and self-pride have gone from
today’s generation who believe that sycophancy is a modern virtue.
Here, arrogance or course behaviour are not
advocated. The purpose here see to ourselves as a one of the competent ones who
are self-sufficient to do the things on our own. We are unique and full of
potential then why are we not realizing our genius? We are not able to
recognize our genius because we are blinded by the impressive personalities and
big talks which are designed to make us vulnerable.
Today all the individuals who are at great
heights have either of these tactics: 1] Pure performance and skills 2] False
aura created by them and their pats. The novice would definitely trapped by
false aura rather than identifying the true potential of the individual. The day
get unreasonably impressed by the others, we start worshipping them
subconsciously which really makes our own self a bit weak compared to them.
Eventually this weakness of mind becomes weakness of characters which leads to
life-time mental as well as emotional slavery. Let’s abandon sycophancy!
What’s the way out! The best way is to
respect the other person’s skills and talents but never to forget that we are
also not without substance. If somebody is intellectual that doesn’t mean that
we are dull. If somebody is rich, it doesn’t mean that we are poor. If somebody
is handsome, that doesn’t mean that we are ugly. We are unique and can achieve
any task that we desire. The need is to realise our full potential and apply
that to our nearest and most important task. Gradually we can reach our heights
with daily disciplines, strict routine, mental workout and definite goals.
Let’s not to be too ingratiating. Rather be
the best in our field through sheer talents and hard work. If the polishing
makes the rough diamond, polished and most expensive, we are ready to sharp and
forge ourselves to be the person of our dream! It is better to live well with
pride and dignity than by flattery and sycophancy. It is to work hard than to
seek favours. It is better to lead than to be led. It is better to create our
own aura than to be in somebody’s aura. It is always better to fight for mental
space than allowing others to used up mind for their purpose. Be gentle but
brave!
Wishing all the Best!
Really nice article sir!
